This assignment was right up my alley, the subject matter was perfect for my style. Below you can see the progression from thumbnails to color comps to final. I ended up with quite a few pages of hand lettering before I was happy with the way the words worked together.
Although the client and I both liked the first sketch (nurse smoking pipe), PCS realized that the title of the play was a strong selling point, so we ended up with a type treatment instead of an illustration. Initially, I wanted to go to Oregon State Hospital (the film was shot on location there) and draw the title on the wall and then photograph it, but it turns out that the wing where the film was shot had been torn down.
